Merry Christmas & Have a Happy New Year :-) xo
10. Lea Michele
Lea Michele takes spot #10 - she has been everywhere this year due to her immensely successful breakout show Glee. 2010 was a year of change for Lea to say the least and she has really grown into her new found fame. On the red carpet, Lea sheds the geeky look her character Rachel sports and instead we have a downright fashionista! She's young & fresh and keeps changing her style, trying different looks that don't always work out but hey, she's giving it a go right! Her new bangs are really growing on me too!
9. Anne Hathaway
Everyone's favourite movie princess, Anne Hathaway had a bumper year in the style stakes. Ever since being nominated for an Oscar two years ago, Anne's fashion star has sky-rocketed. She got herself a new hairstyle, new wardrobe (and new boyfriend). Anne's not a conventional fashionista per sé but there's something very feminine and endearing about her style, even if an outfit isn't wearable for us normal folks, she makes it appear as though it is. In 2010, her wardrobe was very chic, and minimalistic, all the while packing a punch. And who can forget her stunning and iconic Armani Privé Oscars 2009 dress? See here.
8. Rachel Bilson
Former OC star, Rachel Bilson is in here mainly because of her cool, chic casual style. Rachel works the laid back Californian style like no other, from sweet looking blouses and polka dot dresses to denim, she always manages to look put-together and stylish. On the red carpet, Rachel has a distinct style - no-fuss dresses with minimum accessories works best for her. In 2010, the two-tone hair seemed very popular, what with Hilary Swank and Jessica Biel joining in too, but no one did it quite like Rachel. All in all, a trendsetter and a very fashionable female of 2010.
7. Eva Mendes
Actress Eva Mendes has also slowly creeped up the style ladder and really shined in 2010 (being a Calvin Klein jeans model doesn't hurt either!). Eva always has an effortless yet glamorous look about her which I love. She always knows what works for her and prefers to wear prom style dresses with full skirts or sleek gowns that show off her figure along with gorgeous heels (she often wears Sergio Rossis and Brian Atwood). Her go-to designers are Valentino, and Oscar de la Renta and she does full justice to the clothes with her perfect make up and glossy, volumnous hair!
6. Diane Kruger
German beauty Diane Kruger has been around for a while, she started out as a model and has since starred in some very big movies, with mega co-stars like Brad Pitt and Nicholas Cage. Being a former model really helps her because she looks good in literally everything. Not afraid to try different colours and shapes, Diane's always ahead of the pack. But what I like about her is her freshness and simplicity - she'll wear the most basic clothes but will add just enough accessories to make the look interesting . And I guess the simplicity factor was also picked by Calvin Klein, as she's the face of the design house's new line, called Beauty.
5. Carey Mulligan
British starlet Carey Mulligan shot to fame as Jenny Mallor in the 2009 coming-of-age drama An Education, she got nominated in the Best Actress category at several award functions and the rest is history. She got her hair chopped off and has been sporting a cute pixie do ever since. Carey's on my list because of her bold and very different sense of style; you'd never find her wearing skin tight couture or showing off unecessary flesh - her clothes are always very classically designed and she comes off looking very elegant. From Prada to Lanvin, every designer house has longed to dress her up and not without reason! Favouring printed skirts and classic silhouettes, this style star is one to watch in 2011. My personal favourite is the Prada creation she wore to the Oscars in 2010, it's adorned with tiny forks & knives and looks fun and kooky!
4. Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow made a comeback of sorts in 2010 - she guest starred on hit show Glee and has a new movie coming out soon Country Strong, which is gathering buzz. I'd say that Paltrow is one of the queens of the red carpet - in 2010, she never ever got it wrong and always dazzled in one-of-a-kind pieces that really showed everyone what a true star she is. What I like about Gwyneth is that she carries each dress with the utmost confidence which ultimately translates into her photos. And she is a little partial to the colour pink, if you notice...
3. Sonam Kapoor
Bollywood's resident fashionista, Sonam Kapoor always manages to look polished and chic, and trust me, that's hard to do in a town full of glitter, sequins and OTT costumes. Sonam comes in at #3 for me because of her ability to always stand out in the crowd, she has a knack for picking out low end and high end pieces and putting them together effortlessly in an outfit. From traditional sarees to skin tight minis - Sonam does it all with ease, no wonder she's the current 'golden girl' of Indian fashion.

2. Jessica Alba
If you've been a regular on my blog, you would have noticed that Jessica Alba makes a lot appearances! And rightly so. Jessica's come a long way since only being recognised as "that hottie from Fantastic Four", so to speak. After becoming mum to her daughter Honor Marie, Jess has really grown confident and isn't afraid to take fashion risks. Now, I have to admit, they don't always pay off (see this) but most of the times, they do. I particularly like how she can mold herself into different styles, from edgy to sweet, she doesn't stick to one formula and that really works for her! I mean look at her choices - from unconventional Proenza Schouler to Dior, she's always changing it up!
1. Blake Lively
Blake Lively has seen a meteoric rise in Hollywood, especially in 2010. She stars as a lead actress on one of the most talked about shows (Gossip Girl), dabbled in top movies and is highly dubbed as fashion's "it" girl. Oh, and I guess being in the good books of Anna Wintour (US Vogue Editor-in-chief) and designers like Karl Lagerfeld doesn't hurt at all. To add to this, she has a killer body, gorgeous hair and gets to date the cutest actors. But she's on this list because of her varied and interesting clothing choices - she's famously known to not have a stylist and if that's true, then double kudos because this girl has some fashion sense. From Chanel to Matthew Williamson, Lively has the potential to make anything & everything work, here's hoping that she'll keep it up in 2011!

Saree Style
Bollywood actresses Aishwarya Rai Bachchan & Vidya Balan went the saree way at the same award function as Anushka Sharma. Between the two, my pick would be the Sabyasachi clad Vidya Balan - she looked beautiful in the yellow checkered saree, worn with a back cut-out blouse; her hair was tied in a simple bun, adorned with fresh flowers! Mrs. Bachchan looked blue (facial expression included) in a horrible travesty of a saree by designer Manish Malhotra - the way that it's draped makes her look shapeless, the velvet hemline (EEEEEK) is appalling... the only redeeming aspect would be the colour of the saree but even that doesn't help here! Her father-in-law Mr. Amitabh Bachchan looks dapper in a suit & red tie though.

In Versace
Bollywood starlet, Anushka Sharma was spotted at one of the numerous award ceremonies that will now pop up alllll the time. She looked fabulous in a full sleeved, indigo Versace mini and some caged Aldo heels. I for one loved this look on her - the colours are fresh & bright and those heels make her legs look never ending! The make up and hair was subtle, to make sure that the dress is the focus.

Serious Shoes
Leighton Meester was spotted (again!) at a press event for Country Strong. She wore a sweet Derek Lam day dress with some fabulous Miu Miu heels - look how snazzy they are! I love how Leighton always manages to find the most interesting shoes and give special points to her for actually carrying them off! And I wish she would stick to this formula of adding just a little zing to the outfit with one statement piece, instead of pulling a complete wacko ensemble.

Sand & Surf!
British actress Emily Blunt was at the LA premiere of her new flick, Gulliver's Travels wearing a gorgeous number from Roksanda; she paired it with nude Jimmy Choos which actually go with the dress (unlike Marion here). I really like this dress! The colours remind me of a nice beach, somewhere in the Caribbean (hence the title of the post, as well as the theme of the movie, it's based on an island...). Anyway, I'm a sucker for the colour turquoise and I have to say, Emily is glowing in this dress. All in all, happy times.

Spotted: Katrina Kaif
Indian actress Katrina Kaif visited the Big Boss set (Indian version of Big Brother) wearing a fabulous coral hued Tarun Tahiliani one shouldered gown and wore her tresses loose. I like this gown on her, it shows of her height well and the colour makes her look radiant. Seeing as the show isn't exactly an award ceremony, I'll let her off for wearing her hair down, but if it was the case of some formal ceremony, an updo would've looked fab, it would also show off the one shoulder aspect of the dress. But as it is, well done Miss Kaif.
Ps. Just an aside, but watch this song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjZBuMlZj54 - Miss Kaif is smokin!

Premiere Style
Lots of movie premieres took place around the world and there was a lot of fabulous and not so fabulous fashion going around. First lets get the worst dressed out of the way - Angelina Jolie was present at the Berlin premiere of her movie The Tourist and she wore an off the shoulder dark Versace number with attached gloves. WTF? I absolutely detest this style and sincerely hope that it does not catch on. Overall, I'm just not feeling this look, the hair is badly styled and the material of the dress is kinda tacky. Gwyneth Paltrow took a rare fashion misstep by wearing this white Pucci gown that had a laced up side panel at the premiere of Country Strong, and she matched the shoes, same lace style but in black; it just doesn't suit her somehow and borders on looking cheap. Now on the goodness of fashion :) Leighton Meester was also present at the Country Strong event and I loved her flirty and fun Dior dress which she paired with some awesome platform heels in bright orange & purple (they're from Pierre Hardy), I'm loving the gold bangles & red lipstick too! Lastly, Jessica Alba at the premiere of Little Fockers, looking glamorous in a Valentino Haute Couture white mini dress which she wore with gold Louboutins and accessorised with a gold clutch.

Layered Up
Spotted: Blake Lively & Jessica Alba, out and about in super chilly New York City. And they did so superbly - Lively was on set of Gossip Girl so was bound to look chic. I love the way she's working layers, and textures all in one outfit, will try to get the labels later. And how stylish is her shearling jacket and the boots! Alba (sporting a new haircut - cute) who also rocked layers, wore a warm scarf, a knit jumper over a white tee shirt and skinny jeans tucked into chunky ankle boots. Looking at these two makes me actually like winter, even though it's not a New York City based one for me (at the moment at least!)

White Hot (And Not!)
Lea Michele and Kate Bosworth both were fine examples of shapeless looks at the Hollywood Style Awards no less! Lea wore a strapless maxi with nude peeptoes, all in all, a fine sounding concept but the dress was very shapeless and hung off Miss Michele! Sure it showed off her beautiful tan but if it had been a bit more fitting to her body, it would've looked so much hotter! Kate Bosworth ended up looking very matronly and dull in what is supposed to be a maxi skirt - I like the colour, but the skirt should have had a pencil silhouette and if it had to go the maxi way, then a different fabric was in order, not this stiff looking material. Camilla Belle showed 'em how it's done in her beautifully crafted (and well fitted!) sheath by the designer Kimberly Ovitz, she kept the bling to a minimum - wearing simple bracelets and silver hoop earrings - beautiful!

Shimmer and Shine
Actress Olivia Wilde stunned at the Tron premiere in Los Angeles last night in a shimmery gold Pucci gown with an interesting and sexy neckline, also notice the ombré effect on the hemline of the gown? It's a gorgeous mix of gold, silver and bronze. Needless to say, I love love love this gown on her - she looks all statuesque and not to mention hot! She wore Tiffany & Co jewellery and held a Judith Leiber clutch.

Video Game Awards Style
Spotted: The fabulous Rachel Bilson & actress/former socialite Olivia Munn at the Spike Video Game Awards in sunny California. Bilson looked chic in a sheer grey dress with nude heels - which I adore! Love the little detail on the back. Olivia's dress was cute but didn't seem to fit her, the cleavage area was a bit risque! Liked the fierce platform sandals though, Louboutin anyone?

Dior Darlings
Spotted: Natalie Portman (pictured along with the man behind the label, John Galliano) and Amy Adams at a Dior event, and naturally, both wore dresses from the brand. Natalie looked pretty in a lace, waist-drop dress - she stuck to her usual style: sweet and simple (it does work, after all). New mum, Amy Adams, looked gorgeous in a black figure hugging cocktail dress - I love the way she's styled it, keeping things simple with wavy hair and drop earrings but I'm not a fan of the buttons on the dress, it adds a "day look" aspect to it, kind of unecessary!

Blue Valentine Premiere
Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling were at the Museum of Modern Art, New York for the premiere of their new venture, Blue Valentine, which has managed to cause quite a stir in the States over its rating. Williams sported the pixie platinum hairdo while wearing an Azzaro dress, and plain black Charlotte Olympia heels; there's nothing to hate about this look, the cut is nice and the ruffles and black bow add a sweet touch to the look. Ryan Gosling wore a dark blue velvet jacket over a crisp white shirt, but have to admit, I've always had a thing for Ryan, which means there won't be much critique here ;)

Love & More Love
Spotted: Jake Gyllenhaal & Anne Hathaway, promoting their new movie Love And Other Drugs in sunny, summery Australia. Have to say, Anne's on a roll with her fashion choices of late and she proves her mettle yet again, first in a swirly, sequined Oscar de la Renta, which she wore with Jimmy Choos - she wore her hair in a loose updo and let her dress do the talking. On another day, she wore a glitzy number in midnight blue (I think it's a Christopher Kane) while posing out near the Sydney Harbour along with co-star Jake, who also looked good in a casual denim short & black jeans (not pictured).

Crazy Colour!
First update in what? About three weeks! Not great. However, my laptop's AC adaptor is here so hopefully I can post more regularly now. So here we go, not a positive post. Jessica Alba was spotted at an event in LA in a kitsch canary yellow/tan shift by Miu Miu - not loving it at all; the colours are very wrong and there's something about the cut of the dress that I dislike very much; the tan wedges are nice though. Marion Cotillard was in Marrakesh, wearing a blue printed Dior gown - I hate everything about this look, from the hair to the silly shoulder detail. Come on Marion! I expect so much more from you, what with the access to an endless list of designer labels and a top class style team! Here's hoping that in the future, these celebrities actually use the resources.

Vogue Fashion Fund
The Upper-East Siders were out and about (along with Carey Mulligan, Alexa Chung and Christina Ricci) at the Vogue Fashion Fund event in New York City. Favourites: Alexa Chung and Carey Mulligan. Alexa wore a crisp white shirt with formal black shorts and a gorgeous gold statement necklace while Carey wore a burgundy hued Chanel (Fall/Winter 2010) sheath adorned with sequins and embroidery and have to say, she looks ever so pretty! Blake Lively disappointed the most, her Chanel knit and lace dress looked tacky due to the white bra showing through, her hair also looked kind of limp; Leighton Meester wore a Prabal Gurung dress and I liked the dress but the look was ruined because of the bad hair and chunky shoes. Ed Westwick and Chace Crawford didn't scrub up well at all and Christina Ricci's fringe is such an eye-sore! Her outfit isn't doing her any favours either.

Chanel's Night Out
The Museum of Contemporary Arts' (MOCA) Annual Gala took place in LA and brought out all the major fashionistas of la-la-land! All were decked out in their finest Chanel togs, as the label sponsored the event. My favourite of the bunch would have to be: Kirsten Dunst (she looked so good after such a long time!), Rachel Bilson, who stood out in the sea of white choices (and whose choice of footwear really sold it to me, so fierce!) and Malin Ackerman, the white looked great against her California tan. If I had to be picky, I'd say that Rachel should have put her hair in a chic updo, it's a little boring. The rest, Mila Kunis, Kate Bosworth, Chloe Sevigny and Ginnifer Goodwin also looked good... but really, there's not much criticism to make here, it's Chanel after all.
*Correction: Malin Ackerman's wearing a Ralph Lauren dress, not a Chanel
