Best Dressed at the Grammy Awards 2012

Taylor Swift looked better than ever on Sunday's Grammy Awards. She exchanged her usual girly strap-less dress for a sophisticated gown and she also exchanged her signature curls for a tight bun which is I think looks much better. My first thought was that this must be an Alexander McQueen design, but it was actually made by Zuhair Murad, and I absolutely love it!
Jessie J showed up on the red carpet wearing one of the most beautiful Julien Macdonald dresses I've ever seen. Though it isn't necessarily as crazy as the outfits she usually opts for, it is just as lively and attention-grabbing. She lit up the whole carpet with her sparkling silver ensemble, and her hair and accessories were flawless too!
Rihanna showed off her beautiful body in a plunging custom-made Giorgio Armani which also featured a high slit and open back, but despite the dress being very revealing, she managed to stay on the classy side. The color of her hair could be better but she looks very pretty in her curls, and I love the accessories.
Katy Perry looked phenomenal in an Elie Saab gown and $2 million worth of Norman Silverman jewels. The slightly conservative baby blue dress which featured a cute bow at the waist was an interesting change from her otherwise more crazy outfits. Of course, her untraditional hair color contributed to the crazy so it wasn't all innocent, but for some weird reason I kind of like the bright blue hair with this dress - it's pretty cool, isn't it?
The night's big winner, Adele, looked better than ever at this year's Grammys, just like miss Swift! She was so stunning in her custom-made Giorgio Armani gown and the blonde hair and red lips were the perfect contrasts to the shimmering black. Also, her Louboutin inspired nails were very cool - check it out:

Malin Åkerman was one of the few who chose to wear an above-the-knee dress, and to be honest I would normally prefer a long one for the Grammys, but in this case I'll make an exception. Her Cushnie et Ochs dress with cut-out details fits her perfectly and she looks very edgy yet sophisticated. While I love the shoes, I feel like they're weighing down the look a little, so a simpler pair might have been more appropriate, but other than that I love the whole ensemble.
The ever-chic Gwyneth Paltrow looked very beautiful in Stella McCartney. Unfortunately the dress featured illusion netting on the sides and you all know how much I hate that, so that really bothered me. With her body she would have pulled this look off anyway, but now instead you could see the fabric wrinkling. But as can be seen above, she looked gorgeous from afar, and the shiny golden belt was the perfect touch!
Kelly Rowland looked very elegant in her Alberta Ferretti gown and a perfectly matched big coctail ring. Her gorgeous earrings matched the silver floral embroidered bodice, and her hair and makeup was flawless.
Carrie Underwood showed up in a relatively normal, long-sleeved gown by Gomez-Garcia, but despite the lack of originality, she looked gorgeous. The open back is a nice touch and the black clutch matches her dress perfectly!
Fergie was one of the night's most boldly dressed celebrities in her see-through Jean Paul Gaultier Couture gown. I wish she would've worn the bikini panties that the look was presented with on the runway, instead of the high-wasted ones, but I really love the design of the dress so I'll try to see past that. Also, if any baby rumors still remained, she sure put them to rest now as she showcased her perfectly fit body.

Best and Worst Dressed at the VMAs 2011

Worst Dressed
When I said that Kim Kardashian's Kaufman Franco dress looked terrible, I had no idea how terrible! It was even worse from behind:

I can't even begin to tell you how much I hate illusion netting. If you're gonna show your back, then show your back! This just looks unnatural. And then it wrinkles and looks even more unnatural or like you have the skin of a 70-year-old; I don't even know which is worse. At least she had her hair out so that you couldn't see where the fabric started in the neck; that's a plus.

Adele in Burberry Prorsum. I've actually seen this on a lot of Best Dressed lists, but I think it's one of the worst outfits from the VMAs; it's so boring. I love Adele, but I don't love anything about this outfit. Even her hair is horrible.

Speaking of boring.... Katie Holmes in an Azzedine Alaia dress and Proenza Schouler boots. And besides being boring, those shoes are so wrong for the occasion.

Deena Nicole Cortese. I don't even know where to begin. Hair, makeup, accessories, dress - it's all equally horrible.

JoJo in Marco Marco (haha, just that in itself sounds funny). First of all, I didn't even know she still had a career?! I had basically forgotten she existed. And second of all, this is so ugly. It looks like she has giant wings sticking out from her hips. Yes, fly away, please; I don't ever want to see this again.

At least Nicki Minaj' outfit was fun and inventive. She gets an A for effort.

Rebecca Black in a Theory jacket and Louboutin heels. I didn't know Louboutins could actually look bad, but apparently they can. The whole outfit is so matchy-matchy it makes me wanna puke.

"Gucci Gucci" singer Kreayshawn. Could she at least have worn heels????

If you read this blog, you know how much I love sequins, but this sequined D&G jacket is horrible (at least combined with that). I've seen this on a lot of Best Dressed lists too, but I just didn't like it at all.

Oh, Snooki is on a Worst Dressed list, what a suprise!

Best Dressed
I posted some of those looks last night during the show (here), but you can see the outfits more clearly in these photos:

Selena Gomez, who hosted the pre-show, looked stunning in Julien MacDonald. Maybe a little too sophisticated for the VMAs, but I don't care, I love this!

1. Katy Perry arrived in a super cute Atelier Versace dress. This is just so VMAs-appropriate and fun and original and amazing. She looks so adorable it almost makes me like her hair.

2. Later, she accepted an award in a Christian Dior ensemble, Guiseppe heels and a Philip Treacy, uhm, cheese cube hat (?). I have to admit, her hair actually looks really good with this outfit.

3. Then she opted for a more "mature" Tom Ford dress.

4. And in the press room at the end of the show she wore a Johnny Wujek dress and another pair of Guiseppe heels.

Kelly Rowland in a Falguni & Shane peacock dress. I feel like the 'peacock' theme is getting old, but she does look great...

Beyoncé arrived in a beautiful Lanvin dress. This is definitely one of my favorites of the evening!

At first I was a little conflicted about this outfit, and I'm sure it'll end up on many Worst Dressed lists as well, but I just think it looks great on her. Jessie J has just the right amount of attitude to pull this off and she managed to look cool despite a broken leg, which, obviously, isn't the easiest thing to do.

Zoe Saldana in Barbara Bui. It was a pretty safe and very typical-Zoe-Saldana choice, but I still like it. And the shoes and accessories are perfect.

2. Camilla Skovgaard Black Booties with Tasseled Heel
3. Pierre Hardy Pailette Wedge
4. Cesare Paciotti for Ohne Titel
5. Givenchy Lizard Ankle Boot
6. Christian Louboutin Jeweled Platforms
7. Nicholas Kirkwood Taupe Suede Platform Bootie
8. Christian Louboutin Change of the Guard Heels
9. Cesare Paciotti Excel Slingbacks
10. Paule Ka Wedges
11. Donna Karan New York Bird of Paradise Gladiators
12. Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti Printed Canvas Sandals
13. Julian Hakes' Soleless Shoe
14. Calvin Klein Collection Whitecap Boots
15. Christian Louboutin Misfit Heels
- This last shoe has that grunge-glam feel to it; I'm really loving that trend right now!

Ooh, I love them all so much, I can't even choose a favorite.

The battle of the red-soled shoe continues?

Christian Louboutin
Even though Christian Louboutin lost to Yves Saint Laurent in court earlier this week (read about it here), he still wants at least $1 million in damages from YSL, and Louboutin's lawyer says that he is prepared to "fight like hell until the end" and that "it's early on in the game." The judge who denied Louboutin's request to halt the sales of the red-soled YSL shoes also implied that he would continue to be in favor of YSL if the case were to continue. And since Louboutin seems keen on fighting until the very end, this might mean that he will lose his red sole trademark, which was granted in 2008.

When they meet again Aug. 19 Louboutin must "show cause why the record of his action as it now exists should not be converted into a motion for partial summary judgment canceling Louboutin's trademark."

Which party are you rooting for?

The battle of the red-soled shoe

Louboutins

As you may have heard, Christian Louboutin wanted to halt the sales of a pair of Yves Saint Laurent shoes because they used a similar red outsole to the ones Christian Louboutin always uses. However, on Wednesday, a judge denied Louboutin's request. This is what the judge wrote in his ruling:

"Because in the fashion industry color serves ornamental and aesthetic functions vital to robust competition, the court finds that Louboutin is unlikely to be able to prove that its red outsole brand is entitled to trademark protection, even if it has gained enough public recognition in the market to have acquired secondary meaning."

I understand where Christian Louboutin is coming from, but I also understand where the judge is coming from, so I'm a little conflicted when it comes to this battle... What do you think?
